Research launches to plot path to co-produced communities

A new research project will explore how the public, private and social sectors along with communities can work together to tackle ‘systemic local problems’. CLES is working with Urban Forum, Tudor Trust, Salford City Council and Manchester City Council on the goal of creating co-produced communities.
Schemes commended for making better places

Projects in Cornwall, Manchester and Newcastle-upon-Tyne have scooped commendations at this year’s CLES Summit. The CLES Commendations are nominated by CLES staff and highlight initiatives that have achieved positive local change.
Government warned to mind the RDA gap

Failure to hand over regional development agency resources to local enterprise partnerships will undermine the progress of LEPs, the government has been warned. Peter Mathews, MD of Black Country Metals and a board member on the Black Country LEP, said there was growing frustration among business leaders over the way in which RDAs were being wound up.
Lord Glasman issues rallying call to revitalise communities

The architect of Blue Labour, Lord Glasman is calling for a revived commitment and attachment to place and a renewal of local democracy, citizenship and traditional institutions to rebalance power in the hands of people.
North-south divide is greater than ever – Ward

Claims that the north-south divide is no longer an issue are wide of the mark, delegates at the CLES Summit were told today. CLES chair Michael Ward said both former prime minister Tony Blair and the current coalition government had dismissed the notion of a divide as oversimplistic.
