Join CLES
As the UK's leading membership organisation dedicated to economic development and regeneration CLES works with members to critically analyse policy, undertake independent research and influence the direction of our economy in the future. CLES membership provides organisations with access to an established network that includes public, private and voluntary organisations. The diverse membership base is the unique selling point of CLES membership. We recognise the benefit of learning from each other and bringing people together and membership provides access to speaking opportunities at our events, invitations to any bespoke events we organise and joint branding opportunities.
CLES Membership
CLES membership provides you with:
- Influence: The opportunity to work alongside CLES to influence government through joint research and events;
- Analysis: Subscription to CLES' unique research publications and handbooks and all of CLES' regular policy papers which provide incisive analysis of policy trends in regeneration, economic development and governance including:
- Information: Access to the members area of the CLES website with your own unique login and to the online library - search over 14,000 items including books, articles and reports. You can request up to 5 items on loan each year;
- Events: Priority invitations to CLES network events and research seminars; 10% off CLES training days and events; the opportunity to take advantage of free or discounted places at national events that CLES endorses;
- Support: Access to an established network of public, private and voluntary organisations and to CLES staff with many years experience of working in economic development;
CLES membership costs £250 plus VAT. We are also offer a reduced rate of membership for individuals of £75 plus VAT.
All publications will be provided electronically in pdf format. If you would prefer to receive publications in hard copy there is an additional charge of £50 plus VAT.

Include events and training in your membership
You can add event and training days to the CLES membership package at specially reduced rates. Our training programme includes courses on local economic development, evaluation, strategy development, project management and economic assessment, while our events (such as our annual Summit) are designed to stimulate original debate around policy issues and provide an excellent opportunity to network with peers.
CLES Membership upgraded to include 3 event days costs £650 plus VAT; with 6 days costs £1,000 plus VAT and with 10 days £1250 plus VAT. Add £50 plus VAT to these prices if you require hard copies of publications.

CLES also offers ‘customised’ membership packages. Working with you we can create a tailored service that meets your organisation’s needs. CLES + provides a personalised service, building in your own mix of CLES bespoke services, outlined below, to create a package that matches your needs and provides added value. CLES+ membership includes all the benefits of CLES membership in addtion to the services you choose.
- Briefings: We can provide tailored briefings looking at the policy issues relevant to your organisation. You choose the topics and the regularity of the briefings to meet your requirements;
- Policy analysis: We can provide a briefing or event which helps you to explore what a new policy initiative or challenge could mean for your organisation;
- Mapping: We can provide mapping services that will allow you to easily visualise the relationships between data and geography and improve strategic decision making;
- Tailored training: Delivered by our skilled in-house staff, training can be developed to suit your requirements;
- Facilitation: Using years of experience in chairing meetings and networks, we can provide an independent chair to facilitate discussion and debate, for an away day, event or conference;
- Advocacy: Given our independence we are always happy to work with members to undertake research into particular themes in order to influence government and ensure positive local change.
