Future economic lives: How can economic development respond to the challenge of a low carbon future?

Date: 19 Mar 2010
Location: Manchester
Organiser: CLES

This training course aims to encourage economic development professionals to consider how people and businesses might behave in low-carbon economies.

Delegates will explore ideas about new ways of understanding growth and prosperity and will work on scenarios designed to elicit a deeper understanding of the behaviour change that will be required of individuals, businesses and local authorities. Participants will leave with ideas on how economic development policy and practice needs to change in their authority over the coming years, as carbon budgeting is introduced to the UK.

Topics explored include:

  • policy direction
  • priorities and problems in relation to a low carbon future
  • carbon budgets
  • Climate Change Act
  • measuring economic and social progress
  • future economic life
  • changing your organisation and practice to respond to a low carbon future

This course will be presented jointly by CLES and by Warren Hatter, Founder of Ripple PRD. Ripple PRD specialises in research and advice to support the improvement of public services and public policy - especially on climate change and local leadership. Visit the Ripple PRD website
