LATEST PUBLICATIONS
What did the Budget provide for our sector and for local economies? This bulletin provides an outline of the key measures of the budget relating to: economic development and the environment; regeneration; and public services, and moves on critique these measures.
On 4th February 2009, CLES and Localis hosted a joint event with the aim of discussing what the role of local authorities and their partners should be in driving local economies and achieving resilient local areas and economies. This paper outlines the key issues raised in the debate which focused around the following themes: governance issues; the assumptions upon which economic strategies are based; and the potential barriers to local authorities engendering effective economic development.

NEW TRAINING DATE: Local Economic Assessment 30th June
We have added a new date to our training calendar for the course Assessing the local economy which is now also being offered on June 30th in Manchester. In the light of the new statutory economic duty announced in the Sub National Review this course is designed to help with the process of undertaking local economic assessments and explore how they can assist with developing and planning future economic strategy.
In May there are places available on Project Management on 14th May in Manchester and Public Policy on 20th May in Stockton on Tees. You can see details of all training courses and book places here.

CLES CONSULTING NEWS
- The Big Lottery Fund has commissioned CLES Consulting to assess the effectiveness of its support and development services which it provides to voluntary and community sector grant holders.
- CLES Consulting has been awarded a contract by Lancashire Economic Partnership to develop a Joint Investment Framework and Action Plan to help tackle worklessness in Lancashire.
- The Northern Kites project has appointed CLES Consulting to conduct a study into the economic and social benefits that have arisen from the Northern Kites project between 2004 and 2008. The aim of the study will be to establish how bio diversity projects can generate economic and social benefits.
NATIONAL MARKET TOWNS AWARDS
The 2009 National Market Town Awards have been launched and entries are invited from towns throughout England for projects completed between April 2008 and March 2009. The awards are organised by Action for Market Towns – the national membership organisation for market towns – but entries are open to all towns whether members or not. Closing date is May 22nd.
