Summer school to look at renewal challenges
15th June 2007
Think-tank the Centre for Local Economic Strategies (Cles) is to hold a summer school next month to discuss new challenges in the regeneration sector.
The Regeneration Challenge: Creativity and Risk will examine issues such as balancing local economic growth with protecting the environment, new funding arrangements, and threats to community cohesion.
Cles policy consultant Victoria Bradford said: “With the changes to area-based funding and likely reductions in discretionary funding, we have reached an important time in regeneration. Things are improving, but there are stubborn issues to overcome.”
Confirmed speakers at the event, which will take place on 11-12 July at the University of Manchester, include Alan Riddell, director of local development and renewal at the Department for Communities and Local Government; Paul Raynes, programme director of the Local Government Association’s regeneration and transport board; and Brian Holmes, deputy regional director of the Government Office for the North-West.
